Public transport operators across the country have announced a reduction in fares following a significant cut in petroleum product prices by the government, providing relief to commuters.

According to the President of the All Pakistan Public Transport Owners Federation, the transport fares will be reduced by 15 percent with immediate effect. He said the decision has been taken in response to the recent decline in fuel prices, which has reduced operational costs for transporters.

The federation representative stated that the fare reduction applies nationwide and transport operators have been directed to implement the revised rates without delay. He added that the move is intended to pass on the benefit of lower fuel costs directly to the public, who have been facing high transportation expenses due to inflation.

The announcement comes shortly after the federal government reduced petroleum product prices substantially. Officials confirmed that the price of petrol was decreased by Rs74 per litre, while diesel saw a reduction of Rs67 per litre.

Following the revision, petrol prices have dropped from Rs373 per litre to Rs299 per litre, while diesel prices have been reduced from Rs378 per litre to Rs311 per litre. The price cuts have been described as one of the largest reductions in recent months, aimed at easing inflationary pressure on households and businesses.

Economists suggest that the reduction in fuel prices is likely to have a broader impact on transportation costs, food prices, and supply chain expenses. Transporters have traditionally adjusted fares in line with fuel price fluctuations, and this latest cut is expected to provide immediate relief to daily commuters.

Passengers in major cities and intercity routes are expected to benefit from the revised fare structure as transport operators begin implementing the new rates across Pakistan.
